OKTIBBEHA COUNTY — A Monroe County man is behind bars for allegedly killing a 22-year-old Saturday and leaving the victim’s body on the side of Highway 82 in Oktibbeha County.
Daniel Miller, also 22, is charged with murder, said Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the case. Miller is accused of fatally shooting Gabriel Tipson of Columbus.
Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt said Miller and Tipson were riding together in a vehicle headed east, and the alleged shooting happened during the drive.
Authorities found Tipson’s body on the side of the highway near the West Point exit at about 12:15 a.m., and Hunt said he had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Tipson’s body has been sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Pearl for an autopsy.
Miller was arrested later Saturday by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office in Pickens County, Alabama, on a charge of driving under the influence. He was then brought back to Oktibbeha County Jail, where he is being held on $1 million bond.
