Four people were arrested in connection to an early Sunday morning string of auto burglaries in a subdivision in New Hope.
Glenn Rose, 20, of Columbus; Javarion Davis, 20, of Columbus; Delmonte Thomas, 22, of Aliceville, Ala. and McKenzie Harriston, 20, of Jacksonville, Fla. were all charged with possession of stolen property, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch eight cars were burglarized in the subdivision near West Mill Road, Thurlow Road and Phillips Hill Road between 2 to 3 a.m. Several other vehicles were discovered with their doors open, though nothing was taken from those cars, the release said.
Deputies used surveillance video from local homeowners to track down Rose, Davis, Thomas and Harriston, the release said. Hawkins said the four were arrested at about 9 a.m. Monday morning. Deputies recovered two firearms, a laptop and other personal belongings from the burglarized vehicles.
“Suspects were walking the neighborhood checking car door handles to see what they could steal,” Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said in the release. “This is a good reminder; if you lock your cars and secure your belongings, you are almost guaranteeing that you will not be the victim of a burglary.”
The investigation is ongoing and more charges and arrests are expected, the release said. All four are being held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, though bond had not been set as of press time Monday.
