Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency will hold a large-scale disaster scale on the Mississippi University for Women campus beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday.
Emergency responders, including law enforcement, firefighters and health care personnel will participate in the annual drill. The drill will include tests of the university’s tornado sirens and emergency alert system, Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency Director Cindy Lawrence said in a press release.
The parking lot and green space between Pohl Gymnasium and Cromwell Communication Center will serve as the impacted area for the drill, according to a release from MUW.
Street closures are scheduled for 10 Street, 11th Street and Seventh Avenue South for the duration of the drill.
After the drill ends, first responders will meet in the Pohl Gymnasium to share lessons learned from the exercise.
In the event of a real-life emergency, community members are encouraged to call 911. During the emergency drill, please use the words “real life” to communicate in the event of an actual emergency, the MUW release said.
