A deal to purchase the Elm Lake Golf Course at 1609 Taylor Thurston Road is scheduled to close by mid-July.
Realtor for the property, Doris Hardy, told The Dispatch a buyer has had the property under contract with current owner, Elm Lake Golf Course Inc., since January.
Due diligence included setting a closing date, a land survey, which included details about the property boundaries, as well as a golf course appraisal, which was done earlier this year.

“(Elm Lake Golf Course) is going to enjoy so many improvements that he is planning on making that it will end up making it a local and regional destination golf course,” Hardy said. “It will fit the bill for people who perhaps cannot afford Old Waverly Golf Club but want a top-rated golf course. So, he has lots of great plans.”
The property was originally listed for sale at $1,295,000 in October. Hardy said that senior members of Elm Lake Golf Course Inc. were getting older and looking to sell the property so it can be maintained properly. Hardy would not disclose the closing price.
“(The golf course) facilities needed updating, and it just wasn’t going to happen until the new owner came along,” Hardy said. “This person had been searching for a golf course. … He is a recreational golfer who loves the sport. When he came, he said he absolutely fell in love with it, not just the golf course but with the community too.”
Hardy declined to disclose the name of the buyer, but said once the deal closes in just a few weeks, the new owner will begin a renovation of the 200-acre property.
Those renovations will include additions to the services at the business, which include an 18-hole course and clubhouse, and the restaurant on the property, Tee’s Bar and Grill.
Assistant Manager for the golf course, Dylan Cash, did not respond to calls or messages made by The Dispatch by press time.
A former version of this story incorrectly stated that the golf course would temporarily close for renovations. The Dispatch has spoken to representatives of both sides of the transaction and have confirmed the course will not close during renovations.
