The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science esports team is celebrating a monumental victory after taking home the 2024 Mario Kart Championship at the 2024 Fall Esports Championships hosted Dec. 10 at the University of Southern Mississippi.
The highlight of the event was the Mario Kart Championship, where our students showed out on the track. MSMS was represented by an outstanding team of racers who showed great determination to secure the win, including Esports Coach Stacey Holmes and students Aarya Patel, Lilliam Adcock, Israel Cecil and Le’Baudrio Bridgeford.
While the Mario Kart Championship was the highlight, the 2024 Fall Esports Championships featured a wide variety of esports titles, with MSMS participating in multiple events. Our team’s performance was outstanding across several disciplines, demonstrating the depth of talent at MSMS.
MSMS fielded multiple teams in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competition.
The League of Legends team, which placed 18th in the Central Region, included Nicolas Toner, Nyden Barretto-Solis, Phillip Black, Jordan Rule and Jad Frazier. Special recognition goes to Frazier, who finished fifth overall in individual play for League of Legends.
The Valorant team finished 23rd in the Central Region, and included Zander Dennison, Alonso Bocanegra, Ryan Wu, Carson Caldwell, Aden Byrd.
The Splatoon team finished 9th in the Central Region, and included Danica Belingon, Lillian Adcock, Charles Martin.
