STARKVILLE — A fire broke out Tuesday night at a four-unit apartment complex on Central Avenue, displacing four families.
Starkville Fire Department responded at 6:37 p.m., according to a post on the department’s social media.
SFD Interim Chief Dewayne Davis told The Dispatch Wednesday that the fire was under control within an hour and all of the residents evacuated safely, with no injuries reported. A pet dog trapped in the fire was also rescued by firefighters, he said.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire showing on all sides of the structure. Firefighters were able to contain most of the fire damage to one unit of the complex. Another unit also experienced minor fire damage, while the other two suites in the complex also experienced minor smoke damage, the post said.
Davis told The Dispatch all four of the families living at the complex were displaced, either by the damage or by lack of power to their units following the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
