Police have arrested one person and are seeking two more in connection with a weekend assault downtown.
According to Chief Joseph Daughtry, police responded to a disturbance call shortly after midnight Saturday in the 100 block of Fifth Street North. When officers arrived they found two victims who had been physically assaulted.
Daughtry said the victims were walking south on Fifth Street when they saw several people vandalizing one of the seasonal pumpkin displays downtown. They attempted to stop the vandals, and Daughtry said the vandals attacked them.
Although Daughtry said the only weapons used were “hands and feet,” one of the two victims was injured seriously enough to require surgery.
Brody Thomas Kizer, 24, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, Daughtry said. Kizer and the two suspects at-large are the alleged vandals.
Police are seeking the two other suspects. Daughtry said they have been identified and “warrants are being cut for their arrest.”
Kizer is still in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. No bond has been set.
