OKTIBBEHA COUNTY – A man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the 2022 fatal shooting of Dylan Meikle.
Arti Brown, 34, was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday after an Oktibbeha County Circuit Court jury convicted him of first-degree murder, according to a press release from 16th Circuit District Attorney Scott Colom’s office.
Colom said the sentence reflected the severity of the crime.
“Today, the court delivered the maximum penalty, ensuring that Arti Brown is held fully accountable for taking the life of Dylan Meikle,” Colom said in a press release.”This sentence reflects the severity of the crime and offers definitive justice to the victim’s family, who have shown incredible strength throughout this process.”
The case began on May 6, 2022, when Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of shots fired on Floyd Lane at The Links apartment complex west of Starkville.
Through their investigation, sheriff deputies found Brown responsible for the fatal shooting, but he had already fled the scene before officers arrived. Brown was found and arrested the next day in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama before being extradited back to Oktibbeha County.
