An officer with the Columbus Police Department has been arrested on a domestic violence charge.
Kenyada Blair, 24, was arrested early this morning at her Columbus home by Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies.
CPD officers responded to the call at about 1:30 a.m., according to Public Information Officer Joe Dillon. When responders realized the call involved a fellow CPD officer, they secured the scene and called the sheriff’s department, Dillon said, per the department’s standard procedure in dealing with officer-involved incidents.
Blair, a patrol officer, was previously suspended for 60 days from the CPD for fighting with a civilian in a McDonald’s parking lot in June. She was scheduled to return to work in mid-November, Dillon said.
She is also on employee probation for a year for the same incident.
After the city council levied Blair’s discipline following the fight at McDonald’s, Mayor Robert Smith told The Dispatch the officer was “lucky to still have a job with the police department.”
City officials did not comment this morning on potential consequences for Blair following her arrest. The council will meet at 5 p.m. today at the municipal complex.
Blair is being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting her first appearance in Justice Court.
CPD hired Blair in 2015. Her salary is $37,500.
