Two teens were arrested Thursday afternoon for carrying concealed weapons into the McDonald’s on Alabama Street in East Columbus.
Tevis C. Turner, 19, and a 15-year-old are charged for illegally carrying concealed weapons, according to a Columbus Police Department press release. The 15-year-old’s identity was not disclosed because the suspect is a juvenile.
Someone in the restaurant saw the teens carrying guns and reported it. Officers recovered a revolver and semi-automatic handgun.
In Mississippi, you must be 21 to carry a concealed weapon, Chief Joseph Daughtry noted in the press release.
“I can’t say enough praise to the person that observed the weapons, knew something was wrong, and then alerted others,” he said. “They quietly notified the police, and we responded quickly and secured the area. Alert citizens protect everyone. If something doesn’t look right, I encourage citizens to trust their instincts and call for help. If it is nothing, that is fine. We are here to help. We have taken two guns off the street and arrested two persons that ignored the law. That is serious to us.”
