A Columbus man wanted in connection with a brutal beating has been arrested and extradited back to town, according to Public Information Officer Joe Dillon.
Daniel Calvin, 19, was the suspect in a December 2021 aggravated assault, Dillon said. Police received a tip that Calvin was in the Las Vegas area and passed it along to the Las Vegas Police Department.
LVPD tracked Calvin down and arrested him Oct. 29, Dillon said. Last week CPD sent two officers out west to bring him back, and he arrived in Columbus on Nov. 4.
He was charged with aggravated assault with intent to produce death, Dillon said.
The incident happened on Dec. 27, Dillon said. Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Byrnes Circle after a 911 call reported a man lying face-down in the street. The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and then airlifted to Birmingham, Alabama.
The victim is in a nursing home due to the severity of his injuries, Dillon said.
Bond was denied because he was deemed a flight risk, Dillon said. He is currently incarcerated at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
