Three people died in two separate traffic accidents in Lowndes County this week, according to Coroner Greg Merchant.
A three-vehicle crash Tuesday on Highway 45 North claimed the lives of Donavan Normandin, 19, of Columbus, and Samantha Syke Ward, 17, of Millport, Alabama. The accident occurred just south of Hank’s BBQ at about 9:30 p.m.
According to SSG Derrick Beckom with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Normandin was driving south when his 2010 Ford Mustang collided with a northbound 2008 GMC Yukon. The Yukon, in turn, collided with a northbound 2010 Ford Crown Victoria.
Ward was a passenger in Normandin’s Mustang, Beckom said.
Occupants of the Yukon and Crown Victoria were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with moderate injuries, Beckom said. The accident is still under investigation.
In a separate accident Wednesday, Frederick Carter, 25, of Lowndes County, died after losing control of his car on Tarlton Road and hitting a tree, Merchant said. That wreck happened about 5 a.m.
Carter was airlifted from the scene to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where he died, Merchant said.
