A Starkville man was charged with murder Monday for the stabbing of another man in June.
Johnny Harris, 63, was initially charged with aggravated assault for stabbing Elbert Vaughn, 56, on June 19 at the Roselawn Terrace apartment complex on South Montgomery Street. Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt said Vaughn died Saturday at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Vaughn was initially treated for the stab wound at OCH Regional Medical Center in June but remained unstable and was transferred to NMMC a few days later, Hunt said. He was eventually placed in hospice care, and an autopsy has been ordered since his death.
Harris and Vaughn both lived at Roselawn Terrace and knew each other, Starkville Police Department Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said. The two men had an argument outside that escalated into a physical altercation, he said.
Harris has been in Oktibbeha County Jail since June 20. His bond was revoked due to a previous felony charge of sexual battery in January 2018, Lovelady said.
