Two Columbus men are behind bars after allegedly robbing a man while out on bond for other charges.
Jakorey Gibbs, 18, and Jaylin Hodges, 21, are being charged with armed robbery, a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release said.
Gibbs allegedly approached the male victim Friday in a store at the 2200 block of Waterworks Road and asked for a ride to a nearby barber shop. Once Gibbs was in the car, he asked instead for the man to take him to an apartment complex on William Roberts Road.
Once they arrived at the apartment complex, Hodges allegedly approached the man, held him at gunpoint and robbed him.
The victim was struck with a pistol and had his wallet, debit card and cell phone stolen.
Columbus police began investigating the alleged robbery and located and arrested Gibbs on Saturday, who had the victim’s credit card in his possession.
After being released from the hospital, the victim clarified that the apartment complex in the county, leading LCSO to take over the investigation.
Gibbs, during questioning, told investigators that Hodges was the second person involved in the armed robbery. Hodges was arrested at his Miley Loop home on Tuesday.
Both Gibbs and Hodges are being held at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, with their bonds set at $100,000.
Detectives are working with the 16th Circuit District Attorney’s Office to file a motion to the Lowndes County Circuit Clerk to revoke their bonds for these charges because they had already bonded out for other felony charges.
Gibbs was out on bond for charges in a 2024 robbery while Hodges was out on bond for charges in a 2021 armed robbery, aggravated assault and burglary of a dwelling.
The investigation is currently still ongoing. Anyone with further information is asked to contact LCSO at (662) 328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
