STARKVILLE — Prelude Conservatory will host scholarship auditions this summer for young dancers interested in advanced ballet training.
Auditions will be held from 1-3 p.m. June 12 and July 10. The program is open to students ages 11-18 with at least three years of previous ballet experience.
The Starkville-based dance studio plans to award six scholarships for its advanced ballet program, including three half-tuition scholarships and three full-tuition scholarships covering up to $3,300 in tuition for one year.
According to the studio, two students each from Starkville, Columbus and West Point will be selected, though dancers from surrounding communities are also encouraged to apply and may be accepted.
The audition application fee is $30 per student.
Prelude Conservatory owner and artistic director Hetty Thompson said the scholarship program is designed to create more opportunities for young dancers in the Golden Triangle.
“We want to reach out to the Golden Triangle community and give them the opportunity that I did not have during the early days of my ballet training,” Thompson said. “We want to encourage high-quality art and artistry within our community, and we believe that anyone willing to work hard deserves a chance to get the best training.”
Scholarship recipients will be required to attend classes three days per week.
Prelude Conservatory was founded in 2019 and describes itself as a noncompetitive Christian dance studio focused on ballet training. According to the studio, former students have received dance scholarships, gone on to teach ballet and graduated with honors from universities including Mississippi State University and Belhaven University.
