Sidney, Bailey suspended indefinitely
STARKVILLE — The Mississippi State University Athletics Department announced Friday men’s basketball players Elgin Bailey and Renardo Sidney have been suspended indefinitely for their roles in an altercation Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Bailey and Sidney were sent home from Hawaii where the team is competing in the Diamond Head Classic. They won’t play today against Hawaii or Wednesday against St. Mary’s in Las Vegas.

Sophomore forward Renardo Sidney and junior forward Elgin Bailey got into the altercation about 10 minutes before the tipoff of the game between tournament host Hawaii and Utah at the Stan Sheriff Center. Punches were thrown in the fight that lasted several minutes and was broken up by teammates.

Instead of trying to run around the defenders who wanted to tackle him, he tried to run over them.
His behavior wasn’t unusual for someone who had played on the offensive and defensive lines the previous season. So when he received the chance to run, he took it.

Johnson attracts attention on defense for Blue Devils
SULLIGENT, Ala. — Like most high school football coaches, Josh Harper at South Lamar compiles statistics and videos to send to college recruiters, hoping a senior will get some attention and earn a football scholarship.
Once, however, he received an interesting question.
“When I put together the information and videos, I included the Sulligent game,” said Harper, whose Stallions dropped a 48-7 decision to the Blue Devils on Oct. 28. “A couple of weeks later, one of the recruiters called me back. He said he liked the kid I was talking with him about from here.
“Then he asked me, ‘Who’s that No. 72?’ I knew who he was talking about — Tony Johnson.”
Players are focus for Sulligent’s Hubbert
SULLIGENT, Ala. — Nothing is more important to Sulligent High School interim football coach Ronnie Hubbert than his players.
In his first time as a head football coach, Hubbert had to keep his squad focused when more things appeared to be happening off the field than on it.
