The Women’s Center for Entrepreneurship at Mississippi University for Women will host a Business Resource Conference and Home-Based Business Extravaganza for local current and prospective business owners. Admission for both events is free and open to the public; however, pre-registration is required.

A Lowndes County woman faces felony charges after taking two vehicles Saturday night, driving while under the influence of alcohol and leaving a man on the side of the road in his boxers, according to police.

Bruce Wayne Bradley Sr., 35, of 1543 Cal Steens Road in Caledonia, was arrested Wednesday by the Columbus Police Department for aggravated assault with a weapon.

Flooding in Burns Bottom not the big problem it once was

I have been reading for a long time about the Burns Bottom issue for soccer fields. Some believe that since it is located in a flood zone it is in an inappropriate location. As a person with a background in emergency planning with mitigation knowledge, it is suggested to develop such areas for communities for recreational use and buffer flood zones. The county and the city could look into the land fund mitigation for flood zones there is moneys for development.

Enthusiastic about charrette presentation

I encourage everyone who has not yet seen the presentation from the recent charrette to view it on-line. It is a fantastic plan for what can be done in Columbus and it is based on what has already been done in so many cities around the country that we often admire and enjoy in our travels.

Victory Christian anticipates first challenge of the season

After soaring to victory the first three games of the season, the Victory Christian Eagles anticipate their first challenge of the season tonight (7) when they travel to Gardendale, Ala., to play Tabernacle Christian

Victory Christian coach Chris Hamm expects Tabernacle Christian to be the Eagles’ first test of the season after beating Flint Hill Christian (57-16), Central Christian Academy (62-6), and New Life Christian (69-16).

“I expect it to be a tough game,” Hamm said. “That’s always a tough place to play. I know they beat Tuscaloosa Christian the first week of the season, and Tuscaloosa has a pretty good team this year.

“We need a tough game. We’re going to see what we’re made of this week. We’ve won some games already, but we’ve played young and inexperienced teams, so we look forward to the challenge.”
