STARKVILLE — If it is possible to ruin nine years in the span of 10 hours, Dan Mullen might have done it.
Mullen, who was introduced as Florida’s new football coach Monday after leaving the same position at Mississippi State, leaves in his wake a divided MSU fan base. Plenty of those fans still will be angry Sept. 29, 2018, when Florida plays MSU at Davis Wade Stadium.

Report: Mullen could be going to Florida
STARKVILLE — The longest coaching era in Mississippi State football history might be coming to an end.
Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports reported Sunday that Florida has turned its search for a new football coach to MSU’s Dan Mullen. The move reportedly comes after former Oregon football coach Chip Kelly and current Central Florida coach Scott Frost decided against taking the job.
Thamel’s report said a decision is expected later today.

STARKVILLE — Naturally, this had to fall to the Starkville High School football team’s defense.
The Yellow Jackets ended their regular season and started their playoff run with tight wins that called on the defense to secure victories.
Thompson will take on bigger role for Bulldogs
Keytaon Thompson isn’t a typical backup quarterback. Most backup quarterbacks have it pretty easy. Their only duty usually comes when games are in hand or it the starter’s helmet pops off.
Thompson has been asked for more, but nothing like what is soon to be asked of him.

STARKVILLE — Reactions to the nightmare varied.
Kylin Hill didn’t watch the final seconds. The Mississippi State freshman running back rested his head on senior Donald Gray’s shoulder as the latter delivered an impassioned speech. Jeffery Simmons, Johnathan Abram, and Mark McLaurin had to be restrained by assistant coaches and staffers to keep their arguments with Ole Miss players from escalating. As soon the post-game rendezvous with the band was over, Leo Lewis ran the length of the field to the locker room.
