HATTIESBURG — History is being made, and not in the good way. Still, no one in the Mississippi State baseball program is panicking.
A 5-2 loss to No. 21 Southern Mississippi on Sunday at Pete Taylor Park dropped No. 23 MSU to 0-3 for the first time since 1996. The loss marks the first time the Bulldogs have been swept in a three-game series to open the season since 1906.

While other high school players attracted attention from college coaches by scoring, Ado received Division I offers by rebounding, blocking shots, and chasing loose balls. He did those things while averaging less than 10 points per game, including less than eight per game as a senior.

Last year, as a redshirt junior, Billingsley was one of few options Mississippi State had as a starting pitcher after injuries decimated the staff. Billingsley responded by going 2-3 with a 4.78 earned run average in 16 games (13 starts). In 52 2/3 innings, he struck out 52 and walked 38.
