A Columbus resident scored big Tuesday thanks to a Mississippi Lottery Match 5 ticket sold at a Columbus convenience store.
The winner bought the ticket at the Sprint Mart gas station located at 111 Lehmberg Road. The ticket, which matched all five numbers for the Mississippi Match 5 Tuesday drawing, earned a jackpot of $705,000, Mississippi Lottery Corporation Vice President of Communications Savannah Tirey told the Dispatch.
The winner has come forward and claimed the jackpot, but has requested to remain anonymous, she said.
“We were surprised to see another very large Mississippi Match 5 jackpot winner from Columbus,” Tirey said. “Our largest Mississippi Match 5 jackpot ever, the $1.2 million jackpot, that was last year was a Columbus winner as well. So (there is) definitely something in the water in Columbus.”
The drawing marks the third winning ticket from a Columbus gas station for more than $700,000 over the last 10 months, following a $1 million Powerball drawing on New Year’s Eve and a record $1.2 million Mississippi Match 5 drawing in June.
Since lottery sales began in Mississippi in 2019, The Dispatch has reported at least six lottery wins of more than $100,000 in the Golden Triangle, along with Tuesday’s drawing.
Sprint Mart is one of several companies owned by Dutch Oil Company. President Matt Bogue said it was exciting and surprising to see a second lottery winner come from a Columbus Sprint Mart this year.
“Selling one big winner is memorable (and) having two winners in a few months is pretty exciting for our team,” Bogue said in a text to The Dispatch.
A portion of each lottery ticket sold in Mississippi goes back to the state, Tirey said. Each year, the first $80 million in net lottery proceeds goes towards Mississippi’s roads and bridges, and then additional proceeds go to the Education Enhancement Fund.
MLC transferred $12.06 million in February, directly to the state’s EEF, bringing the total so far for Fiscal Year 2026 to $78.6 million, Tirey said. Since lottery sales began in 2019, the state has received more than $770 million in total proceeds.
