Ole Miss upset regional host No. 13 Arizona 7-3 on Sunday to advance to the third Super Regional in program history. The program’s previous appearances were in 2017 and 2019.
The Rebels will play at No. 4 seed Arkansas in the Super Regional. Ole Miss won 2 of 3 with the Razorbacks in the regular season.
Ole Miss (40-18) won games against Grand Canyon and Arizona on Friday and Saturday, respectively, to advance to Sunday’s final. The Wildcats won the first game of the final 10-1 in five innings before falling to the Rebels in the finale of the double-elimination bracket.
Senior Aliyah Binford hit three home runs in two games Sunday, including two in the clinching game.
Arizona scored four runs in the first inning of Game 1, highlighted by a three-run home run from Sydney Stewart. Binford hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to trim into the deficit, but Dakota Kennedy’s two-RBI triple in the second was part of a three-run Wildcats inning that made it 7-1. Arizona scored another run in the third and two more in the fourth off a Kaiah Altmeyer home run to put the run-rule into effect.
In Game 2, Binford and freshman Mackenzie Pickens each hit two-run home runs in the first inning to give the Rebels an early 4-0 lead. The Wildcats responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Persy Llamas hit a solo home run to center in the third, part of a two-run inning that put Ole Miss back ahead by four.
Stewart led the bottom of the third off with a solo home run, and Binford hit her second home run of the game with two outs in the fourth. Arizona loaded the bases in the sixth, but Rebels freshman pitcher Miali Guachino forced Stewart to pop up to end the inning. Guachino retired the side in order in the seventh to end the game.
