SCOOBA — East Mississippi Community College celebrated 14 sophomores from its baseball team during a home doubleheader matchup with Copiah Lincoln on Saturday. The Lions split the matchup, losing 12-4 before reversing their fortunes in the follow-up game.

The Lions won the nightcap, 12-6, getting hits from seven different players and a 4-4 performance from left fielder Ty Murphy. He got on base in all five at-bats with one walk, along with his prolific hitting, which included a solo shot home run to tie the game and kickstart the Lions’ high-scoring affair.
Teammates Hugh LeMasters, Greer Manning and Caden Bullard matched Murphy’s two RBI as the Lions bats came to life with three runs in the second inning and four runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
Chipper Moore got the win on the mound for the Lions, improving his personal record to 3-2. He allowed five runs in five innings of work, striking out one and walking just two as the defense did enough to hold the lead. Matthew Birdsong came out of the bullpen first in the sixth inning and Sam Malone came in to close out for the final two innings.
The Lions, now 18-16 on the season and 5-9 in conference play, head back on the road for their next two matchups, where they’ll face Itawamba on Wednesday and Meridian on Saturday.
