The Dispatch advertising staff brought home six awards from the Mississippi Press Association’s 2014 Better Newspaper Contest for advertising.
In all, the newspaper garnered one first place award, one second place award and four third place awards. The awards were given in late January at the MPA Mid-Winter Conference in Jackson.
Catfish Alley, the magazine published by The Dispatch, won first place in the “magazine periodical.” Editor Stacy Clark, graphic designer Jackie Taylor and former graphic designer Ernest Rogers were each honored for their work on the quarterly publication.
Taylor won a second place award in the “best single retail advertisement” category for her Friendly City Mini-Warehouses ad.
Taylor also won third place awards in the “best single display classified advertisement” and “best advertising promotion” categories for her Point Place and Dispatch Pancake Breakfast ads.
Taylor and Rogers earned third place awards in the “niche product” and “best theme page” categories for their work on The Dining Guide and 12 Reasons to Shop Locally packages.
The entire Dispatch ad staff was honored with the Silver Dollar Idea for its “Design An Ad” program.
The newspaper competed with other daily newspapers with circulations above 9,000.
