Columbus police are looking for a person of interest in the death of a woman whose body was found outside an abandoned duplex apartment at the end of Industrial Street Tuesday morning.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim as Ashanti Jade Turner, 25, in a text message to The Dispatch Tuesday night. He confirmed the death was ruled a homicide and said the body will be taken to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.
In a Tuesday night press release, Columbus Police Department Captain of Investigations Terence Ware said police are looking for Turner’s boyfriend, Damian Peterson, in connection to the case.
Ware, who also spoke to The Dispatch on the scene at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, said police received an anonymous phone call telling them where the body was. Shortly after, officers arrived on the scene. Ware said the body had most likely been outside overnight.
Anyone with information pertinent to the case is encouraged to contact the Columbus Police Department, Ware said. Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips at (800) 530-7151. Tipsters could be eligible for a cash reward.
