The Mississippi State women’s basketball team picked up another commitment this week, landing high school prospect Aniya Palmer, a wing player from Troup County, Georgia.
It was expected this week, but the confirmation came on Thursday from the team’s social media accounts.

Palmer is described by Mississippi State Athletics as “an ultra-athletic forward with guard skills.” She started turning heads before COVID interrupted her early high school career, and though she’s been under the radar a bit she continued to steadily rise up recruiting boards in Georgia. She missed her senior season because of an injury, but she was a Georgia 4A state champion with the Tigers in her sophomore campaign and regional player of the year in her junior year. She has been recruited heavily by major schools since early in her high school career, and though she has waited late in the 2022 year to commit, her patience appears to have served her well.
Palmer becomes only the second high school commitment in head coach Sam Purcell’s 2022 recruiting class, after Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year Debreasha Powe. Both will be high-potential development projects for the first-year head coach, but Purcell has had plenty of experience helping turn promise into production at Louisville.
Here is the full 2022 signing class so far:
High school players: Debresha Powe, G/F, Meridian HS; Aniya Palmer, G/F, Troup County (Ga.).
Transfers: Kourtney Weber, G, Florida State; Ramani Parker, F, Louisville; Asianae Johnson, G, St. Bonaventure.
