WEST POINT – Two suspects arrested Thursday in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting are out on bond.
Damari Brown, 18, is charged with first-degree murder, drive-by shooting and tampering with evidence. Kailey Walker, 19, is charged with accessory after the fact.
West Point police officers responded to reports of shots fired at about 9 p.m. June 2 at Meadowbrook Circle. Officers found Kolby Gann, 23, dead at the scene and another victim suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
At the time, Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter said investigators were unsure if Gann was the intended target of the drive-by. Speaking to The Dispatch on Tuesday, Chief Michael Edwards declined to comment on whether investigators have confirmed the target of the shooting, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Edwards said Brown and Walker have been suspects in the alleged shooting since the investigation began, but he declined to specify what evidence led to their charges.
While both suspects were arrested Thursday in West Point, neither was booked at Clay County Detention Center. Instead, Brown was booked for holding at Lee County Jail while Walker was held at the Oktibbeha County Jail.
Booking the two suspects at those jails was a department decision, Edwards said, but he would not specify the reason for the alternate booking locations.
Brown’s bond was set at $595,000 and Walker’s bond set at $150,000. Both have posted bond and have been released.
The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected, Edwards said.
Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to contact the West Point Police Department at (662) 494-1244 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
