The W has announced that it is looking for new leadership of its women’s soccer program.
The university confirmed that Ana Ramos has stepped down from her head coaching role for a “desire to pursue other options closer to home (Texas) for her decision.” Her resignation will take effect June 30. MUW athletic director Buddy Foster said in the release that a search for the Owls’ next head coach has already begun.
Ramos leaves the Owls after spending the last two years at the helm of the program. She came to Columbus in 2024 after serving as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Eastern New Mexico University.
In her first year as head coach, Ramos led the team to the second of back-to-back St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) post-season tournament appearances that ended in the first round with a 1-0 loss to Westminster College. That year the Owls finished with a 4-12-2 overall record, going 2-5 in conference games with three of their players getting named to the All-SLIAC teams. Six other Owls earned SLIAC All-Academic honors as well.
Ramos and the Owls struggled to continue that success in the following 2025 campaign and the team struggled to a 1-13-4 overall finish – the program’s least successful season since its beginning in 2018.
Out of their 13 losses, five were by one score. Ramos is a former soccer player herself, playing four seasons at NCAA III LeTourneau University in Texas from 2011-14. She finished her career as a player as a three-time American Southwest Conference Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Award winner during her time at LETU.
Ramos’ resignation marks the fourth coaching change for MUW athletics this year. Stewart Mena took over men’s soccer in January, Dean Burrows was promoted to assistant athletic director of MUW athletics after spending three years as the head men’s basketball coach and was replaced by Bernard Hopkins in May. The women’s volleyball program is also currently looking for its next head coach after Breylee Linder stepped down in May.
