West Point has found its next man to be chief of its football team, the school announced Wednesday.
Roger Burton, who has been on West Point’s football staff for 16 years, has been named the team’s next head football coach in replacement of Brett Morgan, who took the same job at Starkville after two years at the helm. Burton served as the associate head coach and defensive line coach under Morgan before his departure to the Yellow Jackets.
“A dedicated member of the Green Wave family for 16 years, Coach Burton brings leadership, discipline and a commitment to excellence on and off the field,” the school said in a release.
With Burton on staff, West Point captured eight of its state-leading 13 state championships which includes the team’s 2023 and 2024 Class 5A titles.
“We look forward to the next chapter of Green Wave football under his leadership,” the release said.
