Tydajasha Hood’s friends, family, and her coach gathered together on Friday in celebration.
Hood, a West Lowndes senior standout, announced that she would be continuing her basketball career at Hinds Community College.
In Hood’s senior season, she helped the Panthers reach the MHSAA Class 1A championship game.
“I like the coaching staff, and the school is like home since it’s out in the country, it will give me time to focus on basketball,” Hood said of her decision to play at Hinds Community College.
Hood also noted that one of the challenges in her high school career was the recruiting process, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic over the course of her junior and senior years.
“The recruiting process was hard because the players already in college got an extra year of eligibility,” Hood said.
Hood will have to work for a spot on the floor at Hinds because of this, but her coach, Takeea Bozeman, said the characteristics Hood displayed during her career at West Lowndes make her a safe bet to thrive collegiately.
“Basically her hard work, she took criticism and would get in the gym to work on areas she was lacking,” Bozeman said.
Bozeman also said Hood will bring “dedication, hard work, the willingness to learn and willingness to put it all out there for basketball” to Hinds.
Hood is also bringing an efficient offensive scoring presence to the next level. Prior to her senior year, Hood averaged 9.1 points per game. Her senior year, she helped carry the Panthers to the state title game after a 17-point outing in the semifinals against Biggersville.
