STARKVILLE — Last week saw the announcement of two Starkville Academy girls soccer players to the 2023 Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Futures game.
Selected were junior defenders Kat McCaskill and Rylee Fisher, two bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season for the Volunteers.
“Kat played a massive role in linking defense to attack,” Starkville Academy head coach Chris Doss said. “Rylee always put in a great defensive effort and stopped a lot of chances I thought were sure things.”
McCaskill and Fisher manned a Starkville Academy backline that improved over the course of the season and shined in bigger moments, most notably in a 1-1 draw against district champions Lamar School in their final regular season match in late September.
“I’m hoping they can be good mentors to the next group of players,” Doss said. “Anyone wanting to play in those positions could stand to learn a lot from them.”
The Futures game will be held at Jackson Prep at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
