Mississippi State baseball is in the thick of its SEC schedule, but its players continue to garner attention for national awards and All-American considerations.
Saturday starting pitcher Tomas Valincius continues to receive praise for his strong start to the campaign, earning a Midseason All-American selection from both Perfect Game and D1Baseball Midseason, as well as a Golden Spikes watchlist spot.
Valincius boasts a 6-0 record at the time of reporting, along with a 0.91 earned run average, 56 strikeouts, and 11 walks through 39 2/3 innings, with opponents averaging just .173 against him. In SEC play he is 3-0 with 30 strikeouts and just five walks across 19 innings and has held hitters to .109 at the plate.
Teammate Jacob Parker was selected to the Freshman All-American team while junior Ace Reese earned a spot alongside Valincius on the Golden Spikes list.
Parker has earned a spot in the starting lineup in right field after a promising emergence in nonconference play, and currently has a .333 batting average with six home runs and 21 RBI. Reese, meanwhile, has continued his strong form as a Bulldog by posting a .327 average with 12 doubles, eight home runs, 38 RBI and a 1.078 OPS while starting in all 29 games for MSU.
