The superintendent for Caledonia Water and Sewer was arrested Thursday after fighting his son and threatening his family with a pistol.
Christopher Bradley Box, 46, is charged with felony domestic violence, Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch.
Deputies responded at about 9:52 p.m. to a 911 call regarding a disturbance with a weapon at a home on Wolf Road, Hawkins said.
After arriving on scene, deputies found Box allegedly breaking a window to enter the locked home while holding a pistol in his hand.
Hawkins said that before deputies arrived, Box and his son got into a verbal argument inside the home, which turned into a physical fight. Box’s son suffered minor injuries but did not have to be taken to the hospital, Hawkins said.
During the fight with his son, Box allegedly went outside to get a pistol from his truck, while his wife locked the door to the house. Deputies arrested Box outside the home before any shots were fired, Hawkins said.
Box was booked in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center but has since been released after posting a $50,000 bond.
Mayor Betty Darnell said Box is on paid administrative leave until the board can meet to discuss his future employment. Darnell declined to comment further on Box’s arrest.
Alderman Jason Chrest said the board has not convened since the arrest but plans to hold a special-call meeting to discuss Box’s arrest and future employment before its next regular meeting in August.
“Right now, I know we’re waiting for (the board attorney) to get back in town,” Chrest said. “… I think we’ll have a meeting probably next week on it to move forward with whatever ends up happening.”
