COLUMBUS — It was a successful year for athletics at Mississippi University for Women, and on Monday, the Owls were recognized as such at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national convention in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The W finished third in the final standings for the USCAA Director’s Cup, a competition designed to highlight diversity in college athletics and reward schools for broad success in athletics.
Men’s golf and softball provided national runner-up finishes for the Owls, and postseason tournament appearances in volleyball, women’s soccer and men’s basketball also helped aid their Director’s Cup ranking.
They finished with 413.5 total points, fewer than 20 points behind second-place Bluefield, who had 432 total points. The 2022-23 Director’s Cup champion was Johnson & Wales-Charlotte with 582 total points.
The W had 21 USCAA All-Americans during the 2022-23 academic year and five Owl athletes were named USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year in their respective sports.
