STARKVILLE — Thursday afternoon saw a fourth Starkville baseball player sign to play at the next level.
Senior infielder/pitcher Cole Kendrick signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his career at Coahoma Community College. Kendrick was an integral part of the Yellow Jackets and is excited to head to Clarksdale.
“The college is amazing,” Kendrick said. “I went down there and visited. I really liked the coaches and I know a lot of the teammates I’m going to have when I go down there. I just think I’m going to have a good time down there and make the most of it.”
Starkville struggled in district play, failing to make the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A playoffs this season, but with four players going to play college baseball this season and more expected on the way, the future remains bright for the Jackets.
“Early on, it was something (Kendrick) said he wanted to do,” Starkville assistant coach Peyton Cain said. “He wasn’t really sure if he was going to get an opportunity, but he put himself in a good position and did the extra work to get that chance. … It goes to show our guys that we have here that even if it’s not a … sure thing, you’re going to get a chance if you do the things you’re supposed to do.”
