STARKVILLE – Mississippi State baseball got back in the win column with a nonconference midweek win over Jackson State at Dudy Noble Field on Tuesday. The Bulldogs won 17-1 in a straightforward run-rule win over the Tigers, improving to 17-4 ahead of their first home SEC series against Vanderbilt this weekend.
The Bulldogs scored runs in each of the first five innings, putting two runs on the board before they’d even registered a hit. Noah Sullivan and Reed Stallman both had sacrifice flyballs to score two in the first inning, and added RBI hits in the second inning alongside Aidan Teel and an error for a four-run inning.
They entered run-rule territory in the fourth inning with five runs, including a 2 RBI drive from Bryce Chance.
The Tigers would spoil the shutout bid in the fifth inning, picking up three straight walks from reliever Charlie Foster before scoring on a fielder’s choice. Foster would get out of it without any more trouble, and the offense went back to work adding another five runs to the score. Drew Wyers cleared the bases with a three-run double as the Bulldogs took a 17-1 lead.
Wyers entered the game early on in place of Ace Reese, who left after an injury to his foot. He fouled a ball off his foot before walking, then advanced to second base and called for the coaches to come check him out. Wyers came on to pinch run and Reesed headed to the exam room.
MSU is back at home to face Vanderbilt in Game One of their SEC series on Friday at 7 p.m.
