FRENCH CAMP — West Lowndes won its season opener on Friday night against French Camp Academy in a high-scoring affair, 42-40.
The Panthers’ (1-0) 42 points were the most they’ve ever scored against French Camp. It’s also the third-straight win for West Lowndes against FCA.
West Lowndes will return home this Friday for its home opener against Aberdeen, the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Hebron Christian 48, Northeast Baptist (La.) 0
PHEBA — Hebron Christian snapped a 13-game losing streak on Friday night with a dominant 48-0 shutout victory over Northeast Baptist (La.) at home.
It’s the first time Hebron (1-1) has secured a victory since a 32-12 win over Columbus Christian Academy on Oct. 16, 2020.
Hebron will host Kemper Academy in its next game at 7 p.m. Friday.
Houston 22, Columbus 16
HOUSTON — Columbus narrowly lost its season opener on the road against Houston on Friday, 22-16.
The Falcons (0-1) kept with the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A semifinalists from 2022, holding the Hilltoppers to under 22 points for just the fourth time since the start of the 2022 season.
Columbus hosts Noxubee County this Friday in its home opener.
Nettleton 26, Caledonia 20
NETTLETON — Caledonia came up just short in its 2023 season opener on the road against Nettleton, 26-20, on Friday night.
It is the Cavaliers’ (0-1) second-straight loss to Nettleton and their fifth-consecutive season-opening loss. Despite a competitive game, the Cavs weren’t able to pull it out in the end.
Caledonia hosts Itawamba Agricultural in its home opener at 7 p.m. Friday.
Marshall Academy 30, Oak Hill Academy 23
WEST POINT — Oak Hill Academy battled back in the second half against Marshall Academy, but a late touchdown proved to be the difference in a 30-23 loss on Friday night.
The Raiders (0-2) were down 22-8 heading into the second half, but scored 15 unanswered points, completing a two-point conversion for their first touchdown of the half before taking a 23-22 lead with just over nine minutes to play after a touchdown and an extra point.
Unfortunately, a late touchdown sunk the Raiders’ hopes for a first win of the season.
Oak Hill travels to play Columbus Christian in its next game at 7 p.m. Friday.
Itawamba Agricultural 36, New Hope 14
FULTON — New Hope struggled in its season opener against Itawamba Agricultural, losing 36-14 on the road on Friday night.
The Trojans (0-1) snapped a streak of two-straight years with a season-opening victory, unable to keep pace with IAHS against a tough road environment in Fulton.
New Hope returns home to play Choctaw County for the first time in program history at 7 p.m. Friday.
Calhoun Academy 42, Columbus Christian Academy 0
CALHOUN CITY — Columbus Christian Academy fell to 0-2 on the season after a rough 42-0 shutout loss against Calhoun Academy on Friday night.
The Rams have failed to score in each of their two games this season, and have been outscored 70-0 by opponents. A plethora of turnovers proved to be too much of an obstacle to overcome as CCA has started a season 0-2 for the second time in the last four seasons.
CCA hosts Oak Hill Academy in its next game at 7 p.m. Friday.
