Three-star quarterback Gavin Hampton’s commitment video wasn’t typical.
Hampton, who announced his commitment to Mississippi State via X, opened up his 1:14 clip with the opening line of MSU’s alma mater: “In the heart of Mississippi, made by none but God’s own hands.”
Hampton said in the video that he had learned growing up that those words meant more than just song lyrics. His mother went to MSU, and throughout the video, Hampton showcased pictures of him as a kid, dressed head to toe in maroon and white.
“For the longest time, I’ve felt connected, and this team, these coaches made me feel it even more,” Hampton said in the video. “By the grace of God, this boy’s dream is coming true.”
Hampton, from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, announced his commitment to the Bulldogs after visiting State on Friday. Hampton had other Power 4 offers from Nebraska, Louisville, Maryland, Illinois, Iowa State, Colorado, North Carolina, Arizona State and Cincinnati, according to 247.
Last season at Riverdale High School, Hampton threw for 2,677 yards, 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Hampton announced his reclassification to 2027 early last week.
Hampton is the 15th commit head coach Jeff Lebby has secured for the 2027 class. According to rivals, MSU’s class is 44th in the nation, 14th in the SEC.
