MSU Football legend Jeffery Simmons hit a big payday on Friday.
Simmons became the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history, signing a three-year, $35.3 million per year contract with the Tennessee Titans.
Simmons is headed into his seventh year with the Titans. He’s a four-time Pro Bowler and a three-time All-Pro selection. Simmons set a career-high 11 sacks last season at 28 years old.
“Tennessee has become a second home for me,” Simmons said in a press release from the Titans. “From day one, this organization believed in me, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to pour into this franchise and community. I want to thank God, my family, my teammates, Ms. Amy and the entire Titans organization for believing in me. My job isn’t finished. I believe in this locker room and this staff, and I’m focused on helping this team get back to competing for championships.”
Simmons has 275 quarterback pressures, 65 tackles for loss and 42.5 sacks over his career in Tennessee.
He spent 2016-18 at Mississippi State, earning All-American honors his junior year. Simmons was a Bednarik Award semifinalist in 2018, the award given to the best defensive player in college football. He had 160 total tackles. 32.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks in his three-year Bulldog career.
