MADISON — It came down to the final minutes, the final seconds of Friday’s game, but the ground-and-pound run game from Germantown was too much for Starkville to handle as the Mavericks upset the Yellow Jackets, 34-33.
It was an offensive show from both Trey Petty and Braylon Burnside, but for as much as they put Starkville (5-2, 0-1 in district) on their backs, the defense couldn’t pick them up on the other side of the ball. With just four district games, Friday was a tough way to begin district play for Starkville.
The Jackets host Clinton in their next game at 7 p.m. Friday, looking to get to 1-1 in district play before a well-deserved bye week.
