MERIDIAN — Starkville continued its run of perfection to begin the 2023 season, improving to 3-0 after an impressive 42-21 win over Meridian on the road on Friday night.
In all three wins this season, the Yellow Jackets have scored 39 or more points, and have outscored opponents 130-67 on the year. Overall, Starkville is averaging more than 43 points a game offensively while allowing just over 22 points a game defensively.
Starkville will host Louisville in one of the most highly-anticipated games of the season, a battle of unbeatens and state champions from 2022 at 7 p.m. Friday.
Starkville Academy 27, Bayou Academy 6
CLEVELAND — Starkville Academy improved to a perfect 5-0 this season after a 27-6 blowout win over Bayou Academy on the road on Friday night.
It’s the third-straight game where the Volunteers have allowed 10 or fewer points and the fourth-straight game where the offense has scored at least 27 points. The Vols have outscored opponents 92-17 over their past three games, and are allowing just over 10 points per game on the season.
SA returns home this Friday night to take on Hartfield Academy, the first of two-straight home games.
Amory 24, Caledonia 17
AMORY — Caledonia fell to 1-2 on the season after yet another close game on Friday night, a 24-17 loss on the road against Amory.
All three of the Cavaliers’ games in 2023 have been decided by a touchdown or less, with a total margin of 15 points separating those games. While Caledonia contained the passing game, it was the running game that brought Amory to victory, as they rushed for more than 180 yards as a team.
Caledonia returns home for its next game, the annual cross-town rivalry matchup against New Hope at 7 p.m. Friday.
Washington School 42, Oak Hill Academy 6
WEST POINT — Oak Hill Academy fell to 1-3 this season, getting blown out at home against Washington School, 42-6, on Friday night.
The Generals (4-1) were in control the entire game, scoring 40 or more points for the second-straight game. This is the first time this season that the Raiders have allowed 40 or more points in a game, something they did five times last season.
OHA will host Rossville Academy (TN) in their next game at 7 p.m. Friday.
Delta Streets Academy 36, Columbus Christian Academy 8
STEENS — Columbus Christian Academy is now 0-4 this season after losing to Delta Streets Academy, 36-8, on Friday night at home.
Despite scoring for the first time this season, snapping a three-game scoreless streak, the Rams allowed 35 or more points for the third-straight game as district play looms next week.
CCA opens up district play on the road against Winona Christian at 7 p.m. Friday.
West Memphis Christian (Ark.) 42, Hebron Christian 0
WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — Hebron Christian was shut out for the third time in four games this season on Friday night, losing 42-0 on the road against West Memphis Christian (Ark.).
Aside from a 48-0 shutout win in Week 2 over Northeast Baptist (La.), the Eagles (1-3) have allowed 126 points this season, including two games of allowing 40 or more points to opponents.
The Eagles have a bye week this week before hosting Lee Academy (Ark.) next Friday.
Tuscaloosa Academy (Ala.) 44, Aliceville (Ala.) 23
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Aliceville (Ala.) dropped to 0-3 this season after a 44-23 loss on the road against Tuscaloosa Academy (Ala.) on Friday night.
The Yellowjackets both scored and allowed the most points they have in any game so far this season. Aliceville (Ala.) heads back on the road again this week to take on Marion (Ala). at 7 p.m. Friday.
Patrician Academy (Ala.) 34, Pickens Academy (Ala.) 8
CARROLLTON, Ala. — Pickens Academy (Ala.) lost big at home this week against Patrician Academy (Ala.), 34-8, dropping to 0-3 on the season.
The Pirates have yet to score more than 10 points in a game this season, having scored just 14 points in 3 games, giving up 113 points in that same span.
Pickens Academy (Ala.) will continue a swing of four-straight home games at 7 p.m. Friday as the Pirates welcome Coosa Valley Academy (Ala.) to Carrollton.
