MENDENHALL — Starkville Academy lost to Simpson Academy in boys and girls basketball in the MAIS Class 5A North State quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
The girls team lost, 54-41, while the boys team fell 49-33.
With the losses, the Volunteers will not be advancing to the MAIS Class 5A state tournament.
Starkville Academy’s girls basketball team finished with a record of 13-18 on the season, while boys basketball finished with a 16-11 record.

Corinth 45, Caledonia 37
FULTON — Caledonia boys basketball lost to Corinth, 45-37, in the MHSAA Class 4A, Region 1 semifinals at Itawamba Community College on Wednesday night.
The Cavaliers (22-8) trailed 16-7 at half and couldn’t find a breakthrough in the second half.
After the loss, Caledonia will still advance to the MHSAA Class 4A state playoffs. The Cavaliers play Mooreville in the third-place game at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
