Colby Allen went 2 for 3 with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs scored on Tuesday to lead the Starkville Academy baseball team to a convincing 14-4 win over Simpson Academy in Starkville.
Allen ripped a two-run home run during the first inning and a grand slam in the second as the Volunteers (29-5) led 7-3 after two innings.
The Vols erupted for six runs in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Evan Siary, and RBI double by Will McReynolds, a bases-loaded walk to Randall Futral and a two-run single by Ayden Alsobrooks.
Hayes Davis ended the game with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth, giving Starkville Academy a 14-4 lead and invoking the mercy rule.
Allen, Cooper McNeel, McReynolds and Davis each had two hits as part of a 12-hit Volunteers attack, while Harris McReynolds, Alsobrooks, Will McReynolds and Davis each scored twice. All 14 Starkville Academy runs were earned.
Alsobrooks pitched all six innings to earn the win for the Volunteers, allowing three earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three.
