SOUTHAVEN — Starkville advanced to the second round of the MHSAA Class 6A playoffs after upsetting unbeaten Southaven on the road, 38-12.
Tied at 6-6 at half, the Yellow Jackets (9-3) scored 25 points in the third quarter to put the game to bed as three different Starkville players rushed for over 100 yards in the win.
Starkville will travel to play Clinton in the second round at 7 p.m. Friday.
Caledonia 26, Clarksdale 0, MHSAA Class 4A playoffs, second round
CLARKDALE — Caledonia’s playoff run will continue into the quarterfinals of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs after a 26-0 shutout win over Clarksdale in the second round on Friday night.
This is the fourth shutout victory of the season for the Cavaliers (6-6) who are now on a three-game winning streak and have won five of their last six games.
Caledonia will host Louisville in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday.
Noxubee County 36, Independence 8, MHSAA Class 3A playoffs, second round
INDEPENDENCE — Noxubee County will head to the quarterfinals of the MHSAA Class 3A playoffs after a dominant 36-8 victory over Independence in the second round on Friday night.
The Tigers (8-4) have outscored opponents 75-22 through the first two games of the playoffs as the defense has come up big in both games.
Noxubee County will host Kossuth (10-2) in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday.
Neshoba Central 27, Columbus 2, MHSAA Class 5A playoffs, first round
PHILADELPHIA — Columbus was bounced in the first round of the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs, losing to Neshoba Central on the road, 27-2.
The Falcons (5-7) managed just a safety and trailed 14-2 at the half, getting shut out in the second half. It was the seventh time this season that Columbus failed to score more than 10 points in a game.
Aliceville (Ala.) 38, Falkville (Ala.) 21, AHSAA Class 2A playoffs, second round
ALICEVILLE, Ala. — Aliceville (Alabama) moved on in the AHSAA Class 2A postseason with a 38-21 win over Falkville (Alabama) on Friday night.
Ty’Jarian Williams was 13 of 21 passing for 212 yards and three touchdowns for Aliceville. Williams ran 12 times for another 109 yards and a score.
Aliceville will travel to Pisgah (Alabama) for its quarterfinal matchup next week.
