Trey Petty threw for 181 yards and ran for 97 to lead the Starkville High School football team to a 38-7 win over Olive Branch on Friday night in Olive Branch.
Petty opened and closed the scoring for Starkville with a 3-yard run in the first quarter and a 1-yard run in the fourth. In between, Tyler Nichols, who carried 11 times for 74 yards, scored on runs of 3 and 35 yards.
Starkville’s defense was outstanding, allowing Olive Branch quarterback Braydon Wright to complete just 4 of 13 passes and sacking him six times for 75 yards in losses.
Justin Jenkins recorded two of those sacks and had three of the Yellow Jackets’ 15 tackles-for-loss. Ny’Jadus Holloway made 7 tackles, while Jenkins and Jermar McCarter registered six apiece.

Tupelo Christian Prep 24, West Lowndes 22: Fred Rice threw for 156 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 85 yards and a score but four turnovers and 100 yards in penalties doomed the Panthers in Tupelo.
West Lowndes took an 8-7 lead midway through the first quarter when Rice found Decamby Willis for a 21-yard touchdown pass and then ran in the 2-point conversion. Willis finished with 3 receptions for a team-leading 83 yards.
The Panthers regained the lead during the second quarter when Rice scored on a 7-yard run, and they added to their lead when JaQuavious Tate ran 31 yards for a score in the final minute of the first half to make it 22-10.
But West Lowndes would not score again despite averaging 6.0 yards per play to just 2.6 yards per play for the Eagles. But Rice was intercepted three times, there was a lost fumble, and the Panthers were flagged 13 times for 100 yards.

Columbus Christian 38, Kemper Academy 14: Luke Phillips completed 11 of 16 passes for 127 yards, and Beau Kemp rushed for 2 touchdowns to lead CCA to a homecoming victory in Steens.
Jonah Harrison opened the scoring with a 38-yard touchdown run for the hosts, who evened their record at 2-2.
CCA led 14-12 at the half, then held Kemper scoreless for the entire second half until taking a knee for a game-ending safety. Lahndon Townley, Thomas Glover and McCory Humphries each recorded a sack for CCA, with Humphries intercepting a pass to set up Kemp’s first TD run.
Caleb Farlow led CCA in receiving with 42 yards; Harrison’s 45 yards led the rushing attack.
CCA opens MAIS Class 2A-1 play Friday night at Tunica Academy.
Canton Academy 62, Oak Hill Academy 27: Senior quarterback Cameron Dill threw for 281 yards and 4 touchdowns, but the Panthers’ offense proved too much for the Raiders.
Senior Nathan Robinson finished with 7 receptions for 165 yards and 2 TDs for Oak Hill (1-3), while Conner Freeman and Jake Glusenkamp also caught touchdown passes from Dill. The Panthers are 3-1.
Russell Christian 56, Victory Christian 0: Tyshon Rogers rushed 11 times for 81 yards for the Eagles, who could do very little else against the three-time defending league champion Warriors, who improved to 3-0 while VCA was playing its first game.
“We had four turnovers, a blocked punt for a touchdown and a safety,” Eagles coach Chris Hamm said. “We struggled with turnovers and first-game mistakes. Our inexperience showed.”
Kayden Barksdale and Zac Carr each recorded 5 tackles, while Barksdale also recorded a pass breakup.
Pickens Academy 34, Snook Christian 0: Deveren Wilkins shredded the Snook defense for 368 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead the Pirates in an AISA Class A Region 2 game..
Chandler Box rushed for 79 yards at Pickens evened its record at 2-2. Box, Caleb Owen and Clay More each made 5 tackles.
