COLUMBUS — Mississippi University for Women soccer player Kiersten Taylor was recognized this week for her strong influence on the Owls’ first win of the season. Taylor, a sophomore, was named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for her part in a 2-1 comeback win on the road at Agnes Scott College.

Taylor assisted both second-half goals for the Owls, finding teammates Kimi Norway and Kate Blankenship to turn the game around and get in the win column for the first time under new head coach Ana Ramos.
“This acknowledgment is a true testament to the time and dedication Kiersten puts in away from team training and it’s exciting to see her hard work be recognized,” Ramos said of Taylor. “She’s another player who shies away from the spotlight and has acknowledged her teammate’s goals from this weekend as being fantastic goals, which goes to show her character, as well.”
Taylor became an important member of the team as a freshman in 2023, scoring three goals and leading the team with seven assists as she started 14 of the team’s 15 matches. One of those goals came off the bench, the winning goal against Wesleyan in the team’s first game of the season. It was fitting, then, that she played provider for the Owls’ first goals of 2024.
The Owls are at Freed-Hardeman University this Friday before traveling to face University of St. Thomas and Millsaps the following week. Their next home match is the SLIAC opener against Spalding on Sept. 27.
