COLUMBUS — Mississippi University for Women athletics is getting ready for its first full season as a Division III member, and the men’s soccer team on Monday revealed its 2023 regular season schedule.
The Owls are set to play three preseason exhibition matches beginning on Aug. 18 against East Mississippi Community College before beginning their Division III schedule.
MUW opens up its season at 5 p.m. Sept. 1 against Huntingdon College, playing three away matches and a neutral-site match before its home opener against Freed-Hardman at 7 p.m. Sept. 13.
“I am looking forward to our first full schedule as NCAA D-III and SLIAC members,” MUW head coach BJ Pheasant said. “As is typical with the extremely short college season, managing our health will be the determinant of whether we have success.”
All Owls home matches will be played at the Roger Short Soccer Complex in Columbus. The 2023 season sees MUW play nine home matches, 10 road matches and a neutral-site match, 20 in total.
Conference play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference begins Sept. 22 against Spalding, the start of a nine-match conference slate that includes last season’s regular season conference champion, Webster, and Greenville, the SLIAC tournament champion.
