STARKVILLE — Bowling Green transfer Kennedy White has already turned heads since transferring to Mississippi State as the graduate student forward was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List Friday.
She’s the first Bulldog in program history to be considered a watch list candidate for the trophy, given annually to the top men’s and women’s soccer players in the country.
White, the 2022 Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year, was named one of United Soccer Coaches’ Forwards to Watch ahead of the 2023 season.
She’s a two-time all-conference selection in the MAC and scored 27 goals over four seasons with the Falcons.
Martinez-Montoya named a top-100 player by Top Drawer Soccer
It looks like Mississippi State has found some top-level transfers in the 2023 class, as junior Aitana Martinez-Montoya , a transfer from Fairleigh Dickinson, was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Top 100 Collegiate Player Rankings on Wednesday.
Martinez-Montoya earned the No. 66 ranking overall for the 2023 season, on the heels of back-to-back Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2021 and 2022. She’s scored 21 goals over the past two seasons.
Bulldogs start off regular season with 2-1 win over Grand Canyon
Speaking of Martinez-Montoya, she was one of two goal-scorers for the Bulldogs in Thursday night’s season opener against Grand Canyon in Phoenix.
She and Hannah Johnson each scored, with Johnson’s goal opening the scoring in the 18th minute while Martinez-Montoya’s goal gave the Bulldogs a commanding 2-0 lead in the 71st minute.
Despite Grand Canyon taking control in the second half, leading in shots, shots on goal and corner kicks, MSU goalkeeper Maddy Anderson stood on her head, recording five saves, and the Bulldogs defense prevented a late comeback.
Now 1-0, Mississippi State continues its West Coast swing to begin the season at Arizona State on Sunday evening.
