COLUMBUS — For the fourth-straight year, Mississippi University for Women volleyball was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.
The 2023 AVCA Team Academic Award presented to the Owls came after they posted a cumulative 3.57 GPA for the academic year.
That includes a department-best 3.71 GPA in the spring semester.
Alongside their team academic award, MUW was also recognized with Honor Roll distinction for finishing the season within the top 20 percent of GPAs in Division III
“I’m super proud of how well we performed in the classroom,” Owls head coach Halee Hensley said in Thursday’s press release. “This season we broke a lot of school records as well as our team GPA goal. I can’t wait to see what we can do this coming school year.”
The Owls finished the 2022 season with an 8-17 record, reaching the United States Collegiate Athletic Association championships for volleyball.
They will begin their first season as a full Division III member on Sept. 1 at the Agnes Scott College Tournament in Decatur, Georgia.
