COLUMBUS — Mississippi University for Women saw two of its fall programs wrap up their respective competitions last week.
Cross Country saw both men and women compete at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships last weekend. The women placed in fifth while the men finished ninth.
Sophomore Hannah Owens led the pack for the Owls, finishing in 13th with a time of 26.39.66 to earn All-Conference Second Team honors. Owens was also named Owl of the Week for her performance.
Owens was followed by teammates Kalee Sanders, Jas Patrick, Rebecca Aday, Paris Flanery, Alana Mathis and Kelyse Faulkner, all of whom secured a place in the top 40 with personal best times.
The men’s cross country team was led by Tavonta Macon, who finished 52nd, just ahead of teammates Noel Kellum in 53rd, Jakobe Smith in 55th, Chase LeBlanc in 56th and Cortland Earl in 58th.
Elsewhere at The W, the Owls volleyball team (4-17) wrapped up its home season with losses to SLIAC opponents Blackburn College and Greenville University. Both matches ended 3-0, with the Owls mathematically eliminated from qualifying for the postseason conference tournament.
The team has three more road games before ending the season.
Owls soccer is also finished for the year. The men’s team finished with an 0-18 record after an 8-0 home loss to Lyon College on Thursday.
The women’s team qualified for the SLIAC tournament in its first season under head coach Ana Ramos. The Owls exited in the first round after a 1-0 loss to No. 3 Westminster College, finishing the year with a 4-12-2 record.
