COLUMBUS — Mississippi University for Women has continued rolling out schedules for fall sports, with seasons starting in late August. On Tuesday, the university released its cross-country schedule for the 2024-25 season, with five regular season events scheduled for the coming months.
The men’s and women’s teams start their respective seasons with 5K races on Aug. 30 at the Jacksonville State Foothills Invitational in Alabama. They will then compete in the Rhodes College Invitational on Sept. 21, the Blue Mountain Christian University Topper Trails Classic on Sept. 28, an in-state competition at Belhaven on Oct. 5, and then the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships on Nov. 2.
Last season the Owls women tied for seventh while the men finished 10th at the SLIAC championships, with women’s team freshman Hannah Owens finishing ninth to earn second-team All-SLIAC honors.
The Owls are led by Dedrick Burnett, who is entering his fifth season as head coach of both cross country and track and field teams. On his watch, the Owls also performed well at the SLIAC indoor and outdoor events, with Owens winning the 10K event and Ty’Kerria Young winning the hurdle event.
